Robenacoxib
Pet owner information sheet
💊 The most important rule: give this medication exactly as your veterinarian prescribed it — the right dose, at the right times, for the right number of days.
What is this medication for?
- Post-surgical/acute pain (US: max 3 days; EU: up to 6 days)
- Acute pain/inflammation (musculoskeletal, post-op); chronic OA (outside US)
How is it given?
Give exactly as your veterinarian prescribed — never change the dose or stop on your own unless your veterinarian has told you to.
- Wash hands after handling tablets; pregnant women near term advised to wear gloves (manufacturer instruction).
What if I miss a dose?
- Give it as soon as you remember — unless it is almost time for the next dose (then skip the missed one; never double up).
- Call your clinic if you miss more than one dose in a row.
Side effects — what should I watch for?
Effects listed as common in this handout
- stomach/intestinal (vomiting, soft feces, diarrhea) (Most common, usually mild/self-limiting)
- Blood in feces (Reported in some patients)
Worth a phone call to your veterinarian
- ↑ Liver enzyme activity (With long-term oral use (not always associated with pathology))
⚠️ Contact your veterinarian or an emergency clinic IMMEDIATELY if you notice
- Trouble breathing, collapse, seizures, severe vomiting or diarrhea, facial swelling, or pale gums
Before starting (or refilling), tell your veterinarian if your pet:
- has or has had: stomach/intestinal ulcers; hypersensitivity; hepatic disease (dogs)
- has or has had: Cardiac/renal impairment, dehydration, hypovolemia, low blood pressure; feline hepatic dysfunction; avoid with corticosteroids/other NSAIDs — observe ≥24h treatment-free period when switching
- is pregnant, nursing, or used for breeding
- is taking any other medications, supplements, or flea/tick products, including:
- ACE inhibitors, diuretics
- Aspirin, corticosteroids, other NSAIDs
- Fluconazole
- Highly protein-bound drugs
- Methotrexate
Storage and handling
Protect from heat and moisture. Injectable: refrigerate (2–8°C).
Good to know
- Feed timing matters more than for most NSAIDs in cats — give without food (or only a small partial meal) to maximize absorption.
- Manufacturer explicitly prohibits mixing with other veterinary medicinal products (no compatibility data).
- Wash hands after handling tablets; pregnant women near term advised to wear gloves (manufacturer instruction).
This information sheet is educational and supplements — it does not replace — your veterinarian's individual instructions. Doses are set by your veterinarian based on your pet's weight, health, and other medications.
